Councilman Favret

September 17, 2021 (Chesapeake Beach, MD)- The Mayor and Town Council announce the resignation of Councilman Derek Favret, effective September 15, 2021. Councilman Derek Favret outlined the reasons for his resignation from the Town Council during the July 15th Town meeting and took part in electing Councilman Larry Jaworski as the new Vice President of the Town Council during the September 8th Special Town Meeting. Councilman Favret has accepted a new employment opportunity that requires that his family relocate to Newport News, VA. This move will also allow the Favret's to be closer to their extended family members.

In addition to serving the citizens as a member, and Vice President of the Town Council, Councilman Favret has served the Board of Appeals, served as the Chair of the Town's Walkable Community Advisory Group and as the first President of the Chesapeake Village Homeowners Association. Councilman Favret is retired from the US Air Force and works as a Federal Civil Servant at the U.S. Department of Energy.

"It has been an honor to serve on the Chesapeake Beach Town Council for the past 5 years.  This Administration worked very well together and continues to achieve goals focused on making the community a better place to live, work and raise a family.  I truly enjoyed meeting and collaborating with so many wonderful people along the way.  My family and I will miss the Town tremendously and wish everyone nothing but the very best moving forward.", stated Councilman Derek Favret.

The Mayor, Town Council and Town staff spoke on the impact that Councilman Derek Favret has had on the Town, calling him a conduit to many activities in service of the citizenry, during the last two public Town meetings.

"Thank you for your service, dedication and words of wisdom that enabled these last 5 years to be the best administration that the Town of Chesapeake Beach has seen for the last century!" stated Mayor Patrick J. "Irish" Mahoney.

New Council Vice President Jaworski offered his thanks and appreciation to the Mayor and town council for electing him to this position.  Council Vice President Jaworski, added, “I know I have some big shoes to fill in replacing Mr Favret.  He did an outstanding job as a member of our town council and our Council Vice President.  He will be surely missed.”

In accordance with the Town's Charter, the Town Council will appoint a Council member to fill the Councilman Favret's vacancy for the unexpired term. Information on this process will be posted on the Town website in the coming week.

We wish the Favret family all of the best and look forward to seeing them around Town again soon.
