September 11, 2001

September 8, 2021 (Chesapeake Beach, MD) - The Towns of Chesapeake Beach and North Beach invite you to join in a moment of silence in honor of the lives lost on September 11, 2001. On this date 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group, al Qaeda, hijacked four airplanes and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States, killing 2,977 innocent lives.

In memory of the victims of September 11, 2001, the North Beach Union Church will ring their bells twenty times, to signify the twenty year anniversary of this date, at the following times:

8:46 AM when the first plane hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center, at 9:03 AM when the second plane hit the South Tower of the World Trade Center, at 9:37 AM when the third plane struck the southwest side of the Pentagon and at 10:03 AM when the fourth plane crashed in PA after passengers attempted to overpower their assailants.

Flags will be flown throughout the Twin Beaches and at half mass at the Chesapeake Beach Veterans Memorial Park on September 11th from sunrise to sunset. Join us in remembrance.
