September 1, 2021 (Chesapeake Beach, MD)- As Ida approaches our area, BGE Reiterates Severe Weather Safety Precautions.
If you notice a downed wire after a storm, make sure to stay away and call BGE at 1-877-778-2222.
Never approach a downed power line; always assume a power line is energized and extremely dangerous - Call us immediately!
If you are experiencing an outage:
- Protect Your Food: Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible. Food can stay frozen for 36 hours or more in a freezer if you keep the door closed.
- Use a Generator Safely: Never use a generator indoors or in an attached garage. Place the generator where exhaust fumes will not enter your house.
- Be Careful: Don't light candles; they could start a fire.
- Stay away from fallen or low-hanging wires or anything they contact and be especially cautious near metal fences.
