Town Observes Juneteenth

June 17, 2021 (Chesapeake Beach, MD)— Mayor Patrick "Irish" Mahoney announces that the Chesapeake Beach Town Hall will be closed on Friday, June 18, 2021 in observance of Juneteenth National Independence Day. Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States.

“I am proud to join our Governor in observance of this new national holiday,” said Mayor Patrick "Irish" Mahoney. 

Congress has passed, bipartisan legislation recognizing June 19 as Juneteenth National Independence Day. Whenever a national holiday falls on a Saturday, state employees observe the holiday on the preceding Friday. The Town of Chesapeake Beach joins the state in observance on June 18.
