Councilwoman Margaret (Peggy) Hartman

Peggy Hartman

I am very excited to start my first term on the Chesapeake Beach town council.  My husband, Dominique, and I moved here in 2017.  Previously, we have lived in New Jersey, Switzerland, New York and England.  While Maryland is new as our ‘home’ town, after spending many vacations here with my sister, we were pretty familiar with the area.

I retired in 2018 and promptly took up local volunteer activities in Jug Bay Wetlands sanctuary, the Dragonboat races, the Captain Avery Oyster festival and have just completed the University of Maryland Watershed Steward program in Calvert County.  Additionally, I served on the Board of Elections for Chesapeake Beach and am the Vice President for our HOA board.

My career was in computer information systems and Internal Audit but my passion is for the outdoors.  I am particularly keen on preservation through local actions.  Helping the environment does not always need a monumental effort.  Turning off unused lights, switching plastic straws for paper, bringing your own reusable water bottle or grocery bags are all steps in the direction of a healthier environment.

Having grown up in a small town in western NY, I appreciate living in an area where basic needs such as groceries, post office, banking, restaurants etc. may be reached without a car.  Providing safe, attractive and plentiful walking spaces is something I look forward to in my participation as co-chair, with Charlie Fink, in the Walkable Community Advisory Group.  Having a destination to go to is also enjoyable and I am confident with a mindful comprehensive plan and incentives for growth, Chesapeake Beach will attract more diverse businesses to the town.
