Speed Enforcement Program

(Updated August 28, 2019)

The Town of Chesapeake Beach has implemented an automated speed enforcement program along MD Rt. 261 and Old Bayside Road and along Old Bayside Road. The program provides automated enforcement at Beach Elementary School to deter speeding and promote a safer street for school buses, parents and children.

The fine for violating the posted speed limit is $40.00 for each violation. Violators traveling 12 miles over the posted speed limit will result in a violation notice being issued via the US Mail. All violators may pay the fine or request a court date to contest violation notices. Photo violations do not result in points and cannot be used to increase a person’s insurance rates. Any funds received by the Town of Chesapeake Beach from the payment of fines are used exclusively for public safety programs.

Speed Monitoring Systems Reform Act of 2014

Senate Bill 350, Speed Monitoring Systems Reform Act of 2014, which became effective June 1, 2014, stipulates "A local jurisdiction that authorizes a program of speed monitoring systems shall designate an official or employee to investigate and respond to questions or concerns about the local jurisdiction's speed monitoring system program." The Town of Chesapeake Beach has designated Holly Wahl, Town Administrator as the ombudsman. Holly Wahl can be contacted via email or at Town Hall.
