Town Adopts New Housing Code

What Landlords and Tenants Need to Know!

On May 16, 2019 the Chesapeake Beach Town Council adopted Ordinance No. O-19-11, known as the housing code of the Town of Chesapeake Beach, MD. The purpose of the ordinance is to protect the public health, safety and welfare in connection with residential structures and premises and other buildings and premises that may contain residential occupancy. In a nutshell, this chapter establishes minimum property maintenance standards for both exterior and interior, fixes the responsibility of property owners, operators and tenants of residential structures, establishes a Town rental licensing and inspection program and provides for enforcement and penalties. Landlords and tenants are encouraged to complete this fillable form which will automatically establish your address as a rental property. Otherwise, you may call Town Hall (410-257-2230) or email Connie O'Dell.

When the rental inspection program officially begins, if you are a landlord, you will be required by the new ordinance (§162-14. Rental License Required) to be licensed by the Town. Please be proactive and get to know this new ordinance!
