Posted on: February 21, 2020 - 9:08am
Chief Mills of the North Beach Volunteer Fire Department provided a Public Service Announcement during the February 20th, 2020 Town Council meeting. Alfred Jeffrey of the Calvert County Office of Emergency Management was also present as a resource to citizens.
Here are some quick tips, video available below with further information:
- Install smoke detectors on every level of your home, inside bedrooms and sleeping areas.
- Replace your smoke detectors at a minimum of every 5-10 years.
- Test smoke alarms every month and change the batteries. Alfred Jeffrey recommends changing the batteries with the change of the clock.
- Check your sprinklers! Visually verify that all water shutoff valves are open and the storage tank if present, is full. Periodically perform a flow test and dont block your sprinkler components.
- Teach your children what smoke alarms sound like and what to do when they hear them.
- Talk with your family about a fire escape plan and practice the plan.
- Ensure household members know two ways to escape from every room of your home.
- Teach household members to STOP, DROP and ROLL if their clothes catch fire.
