Beach Elementary School (BES) Tennis Courts

August 10, 2023 (Chesapeake Beach, MD) - The Town provides notice of temporary limits of accessibility to the tennis courts located at Beach Elementary School while construction of the new school moves to a final phase of work. The approved grading permit for the new Beach Elementary School (BES) places the tennis courts within the limits of disturbance (LOD). The limit of disturbance is required to complete the play field in the front of the school, the drop off/pick up car rider loop, staff/visitor parking, and remaining site work. Due to the construction impacts required to grade the eastern side of the lot, the tennis courts will be temporarily inaccessible. While a interruption is always inconvenient it is only a sign of moving closer to the newly improved Beach Elementary School.

The Calvert County Board of Education Project Management team anticipates that this final phase of the project will wrap up in January of 2024.

The Town Council of the Town of Chesapeake Beach and the Calvert County Board of Education are in conversation regarding the Town potentially taking over the long term maintenance of the tennis courts through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). However, the impacts to the tennis courts due to construction of the school are not related to these conversations. The Town will continue to provide updates on publicly accessible recreational spaces at Beach Elementary School and looks forward to the continued partnership with the Calvert County Board of Education.
