September 18, 2023 (Chesapeake Beach, MD)- The Town of Chesapeake Beach Public Works is aware that several areas of Town are experiencing brown water.

What is "brown" water? “Brown” water is caused by iron in the source ground water that fills our water towers. The water is discolored but is safe.

Why are there areas of brown water in Town? Public Works reports that the occurrence of brown water is due to the use of a different blend of sequestering agent designed to keep iron sequestered longer; however, through the use Public Works has identified that their current polymer blend is preferable and will no longer utilize the alternate blend due to the occurrence of brown water in several areas around Town.

How will the brown water be reduced? Public Works will be conducting spot flushing in Town from 2:00 am to 4:00 am on Tuesday September 19th.

What should I do if I experience brown water? Please call town hall at (410)257-2230 if you are experiencing brown water so that Public Works can identify all areas impacted. Town Hall has iron stain remover available at Town Hall for citizens impacted.
