Public Notice: Razor Clam Dredging

Chesapeake Beach, MD (August 17th)-The Secretary of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources announces pursuant to COMAR 08.02.02.09 that the portion of the Chesapeake Bay in Calvert County described below will be open for the dredging of razor clams with special restrictions.

In order to harvest in the open area, an individual must first apply for and obtain a Razor Clam Permit.

AREA OPEN All the waters of the Chesapeake Bay south of Chesapeake Beach enclosed by a line beginning at a point at or near Lat. 38° 39.960' N, Long. 76° 31.750' W; then running along shore to a point at or near Lat. 38° 41.250' N, Long. 76° 31.940' W; then running 92° True to a point at or near Lat. 38° 41.240' N, Long. 76° 31.500' W; then running 173° True to a point at or near Lat. 38° 39.96' N, Long. 76° 31.29' W; then running 270° True to the point of beginning.

DATES OPEN This area will be open to the harvest of razor clams by razor clam permit holders on:

  • August 18, 19, 25 and 26, 2020
  • September 15, 16, 22, 23, 29 and 30, 2020

HARVEST TIMES AND CATCH LIMIT Unlimited harvest in this area by razor clam permit holders is allowed from sunrise to 11:00 a.m.

PURPOSE OF THIS OPENING This area is being opened to allow for the harvest of razor clams as bait to ensure an adequate supply of bait to the crab fishery.

HOW TO APPLY There are two ways to apply for a Razor Clam Permit (please only use ONE): 1. Fill out the Google Form here 2. Complete and mail this form (click the link) to Eric Campbell at eric.campbell@maryland.gov. For questions call Chris Judy at 443-223-0472. The Department may only issue permits to the first 30 applicants. Applications will be processed in the order in which they are received.

WHO THIS NOTICE AFFECTS This opening applies to all individuals who catch razor clams for commercial purposes.

EFFECTIVE DATE This opening is effective at sunrise, August 18, 2020.
