CBOCS

Chesapeake Beach Oyster Cultivation Society:

CBOCS

By clicking on CBOCS or Chesapeake Beach Oyster Cultivation Society, you are able to view our CBOCS team and all that they do! Our Oyster Cultivation Society is a Committee made up of Volunteers, founded by John Bacon in 2011, with Sue Alexander as the Chair. We have partnered with the Maryland DNR Maryland Grows Oysters (MGO) program to provide an opportunity for the citizens of Chesapeake Beach to improve local water quality as well as their knowledge of the Bay ecosystem.

CBOCS2

CBOCS volunteers support educational opportunities to the students of Calvert County Public Schools. Each year all Calvert County Public School's 5th grade classes come to Fishing Creek to study oyster habitats and life cycle through the Chespax program. From counting baby spat, to testing water quality data, you will certainly get a hands-on experience with bay animals that live on the oyster reefs. To become a volunteer, please call the Town Hall at (410) 257-2230, or you can also email info@chesapeakebeachmd.gov.

Mosquito Repellent Plants

The Green Team is responsible for this info-graphic. The purpose is to show that anyone can grow these mosquito repellent plants next to their own front door or on a small balcony or patio. We urge you to try, thereby reducing the use of Chemical DeterrentsHELP KEEP OUR WATERWAYS AND OUR CHESAPEAKE BAY CLEAN! ! !  Please follow the link to find out more information about the Green Team and how you can get more involved in your community! The Green Team has created a booklet below to show off the diversity of plants found in Chesapeake Beach.

Flora Field Guide:

Field Guide to the Flora

The Flora Field Guide introduces our citizens and visitors to the rich diversity of plants found in Chesapeake Beach. It is a quick look at the beautiful abundance of trees, shrubs, flowers, vines, and grasses you will encounter while walking, biking, or boating! Some of our plants are "threatened" and some can be seen only if you are kayaking or canoeing, but most of them provide food and/or habitat for the birds or animals that live amongst us. Please be respectful, enjoy, and by all means, stay out of the POISON IVY! Click on Flora Field Guide to virtually flip through our booklet of all our different plants.

Pollinator Hotel and Garden:

Pollinator Hotel and Garden

The Chesapeake Beach Pollinator Hotel and Garden is super cool and it was created by Larry Ringgold from Turtlepoint Driftwood. Inside this booklet, you are able to learn about many different types of plants, but pollinators too. Pollinators have been increasingly threatened in recent years for a variety of reasons. Please take a look throughout our booklet at ways to understand and help these wondrous creatures. We must have the help of pollinators in order for new plants to bloom! Each area that is covered within this booklet is a science in itself and truly interesting! Enjoy the garden.
